With the beginning of a new month, a bit of immediate, poignant, street-level philosophy. I will ask my students to read this and give immediate feedback about what they think is going on here. What a short passage with soooo many possible interpretations! It may not be a happy start to the day but it does kickstart the thought processes.

A reader, encouraging others to expand their knowledge of English through reading along with me some books I am currently reading. I will publish some reviews of books I have found notable. Comments in agreement and disagreement are welcome.

    1. I will keep this in mind and try to give you a follow-up. My classes start the first week of September and I am compiling a list of really good and provocative writing. My university students are Indonesian learners of English as a Second Language. Out of each class of approximately 25, I usually get about five who can get across cultural barriers or references and come up with creative inputs. Once they succeed, each of them leads a group to explore other ideas in a rinse and repeat cycle.

I look forward to seeing more of your observations and writing.
