Hold the (Party) Line! A Twittering Tale

3 min read

It is a placid if not yet happy New Year and I am looking forward to being bored. I know it can’t last for long but with the latest government shutdown, I save a lot of time by not listening to the news. I only listen to the one headline per day: “The government has been shut down for (X) number of days.” I can then turn off the news because there is nothing else important. Yes, there are important things going on in the world outside our borders but as Donny the Grinch says, he is only here to make America grate again. And he is doing that. To do that, the chief needs to mobilize all our resources.

In the past two weeks, the Great Prevaricator has replaced the traditional Santa hat with MAGA hats. He has encouraged our population as young as seven years old to give up the myths of their youth and man up in the  new crusade. He had to act quickly before they figure out there are other genders. He had enlisted the aid of our WWII allies to promote his message but France refused to send their Army to march down 1600 Pennsylvania Ave in celebration of Donnie’s Devastation. Mad Dog refused to contribute troops to the celebratory coalition. In the end, all erstwhile allies could only give Donnie the bird. And the bird has a message.

It is a good thing I am apolitical or I could get downright snarky. As it is I will only make suggestions. Start off the New Year right by joining the contributors to Kat’s Twittering Tales. You will meet new people who will refuse to stay in the box. Instructions are below. Kat contributes a lot of her time to collect the contributions in a summary that you can find on her website. Discover new blogs to follow! Kat’s instructions are followed by her contribution followed by my submission. And have fun.

Twittering Tales #117 – 1 January 2019

About the challenge: Each Tuesday I will provide a photo prompt. Your mission, if you choose to accept the challenge, is to tell a story in 280 characters or less. When you write your tale, be sure to let me know in the comments with a link to your tale.

A final note: if you need help tracking the number of characters in your story, there is a nifty online tool that will count for you at

I will do a roundup each Tuesday, along with providing a new prompt. And if for some reason I missed your entry in the Roundup, as I have occasionally done, please let me know. I want to be sure to include your tale.

Finally, have fun!

And REMEMBER…you have 280 characters (spaces and punctuation included), to tell your tale…and a week to do it. I can’t wait to see what you create this week.

My humans love to repeat some silly words. ‘Hello, bye bye, nite-nite.’ Lame! Sometimes I give ‘em a ‘good boy’ or ‘hello’. The old guy is my favorite. He taught me a few new words.

Whenever I get tired of the one they call mom I give her a loud SHIT. I like to hear her scream!

My submission:

Let’s start the show. Come to order! It has come to our attention some of you are expressing independence in a message. Your only job is to parrot the party line. We give you the talking points, you repeat over and over. Are you Democrats? Can you hear me? Is this thing on?

  1. I’m glad I was persistent Ron. The link to your tale in the comments launched me to one of those odd 404 messages. A conspiracy maybe? At any rate, I’m so glad I found your tale. I have tried to limit my intake of fake news these days. Fake as in State news, fake ala Ms. Sanders (though, press conferences have been sparse these days) and POTUS tweets. I am enjoying the colorful language and zeal of our freshman congress members. And I find it amusing that even Faux News is raising a few eyebrows at the liar in chief. But like you I was pretty distressed to hear about the horrible conversation Donny Darko had with an innocent 7 year old who had the audacity to believe in Santa Claus. I have a feeling the trump clan never had Santa. DJT would never share the limelight with a benevolent elf. He likely made it clear to his brood that he and he alone bought all the gifts underneath their blood red trees. On the homefront, people are still languishing and dying at our borders. Government workers are heading into yet another week on furlough or worse, being forced to work for free while the debt collectors wait in the wings, patience waning. There are letters though…that should stay the wolves at the door according to the Administration. Offer to do chores around the condo perhaps, in lieu of payment for the roof over your head. It is lunacy. It is all lunacy. I enjoy reading your take. We are on the same page I think. If ever there was a time to burn books…

    1. It is always nice hearing from you. About the odd 404 message … I live in a rather remote section of Indonesia where some self-important authority has decided to censor the internet. This has led to some very weird results because the people making decisions are illiterate not only in English but in their own language. Project Gutenberg (not the text editor) was put on the restricted list. To counter this, I almost always use a VPN. The absurdity of that is I direct the VPN through Jakarta and almost everything is available. The downside is the occasional 404 message with an emphasis on “occasional.” Technology rules, humans must be subservient (but I am still using the WordPress classic editor)
